The insulation materials aging is the insulation materials in use or storage that performance will occur irreversible degradation as time goes by. The insulation materials need to support different kinds of mechanical stress that has constant, oscillatory and expansion and contraction. The insulation material use outdoor will suffer direct sunlight that would occur aging under ultraviolet light. Insulation materials used in nuclear reactors and X-ray devices will age when exposed to radiation. Insulation material moisture will increase the conductivity, increase the loss. Water also dissolves many substances that speed up the chemical reactions that cause aging. Acids, ozone and so on also cause chemical aging.

Insulation materials are often used in electrical products. As insulation materials will inevitably encounter aging. When aging and not found immediately to solve, the resulting consequences are impossible to estimate. In the continuous operation of electrical equipment, insulation materials inevitably undergo some physical and chemical changes due to various factors of themselves and the outside world. We divide the aging of insulation material into thermal aging, environmental aging and electrical aging. The causes of aging are varied. The reason for thermal aging is that the polymer insulation material is prone to degradation, resulting in the overflow of low molecular material which leads to the reduction of insulation and mechanical properties.
