For any electrical machine or equipment, usually the operating voltage V in volts and maximum current A in amps are specified.

This gives an idea of amount of power drawn or delivered = VA rating = V *A

Usually in many power equipment the voltage is in Kilo volts or KV. In such cases VA rating becomes KVA rating.

When voltage is in KV and current in kilo amperes KA then KV *KA gives rise to Mega VA or MVA rating.

This is also called as apparent power. All this value is not truly used in converting in energy. It is multiplied by power factor and that gives us power in watts, KW or MW.
